Pape is a fishing village in Latvia, just 5 kilometers from the Lithuanian border.
The village borders a lake to the east and the Baltic Sea to the west. The shores of Lake Pape are thick with reeds, making it a perfect spot for fishing. Here, you’ll often meet anglers who have been coming back for over 25 years.
On the western shore of the lake, you can see herds of wild horses, deer, and large horned animals that, according to Latvians, resemble the long-extinct aurochs.
Pape is special for its tranquility and clean, wild beaches.
Early in the morning or evening, you might not see a single person by the sea, giving you a chance to enjoy peace and solitude.
There’s no loud music or crowds here. However, it’s important to bring your own food and drinks, as the nearest shop is about 1 km away, and the closest café is around 2.5 km.
Many visitors who discover Pape start planning their return – and most of them actually do.
